Discipleship and Mentoring Ministry Position
West Abbotsford Mennonite Church is seeking to hire a half-time associate minister in discipleship and mentoring. This person would provide leadership in the areas of discipleship and mentoring with particular emphasis on our work with men and women who are recovering from substance addiction. The position begins August 2008.
Ministry goals include the following:
- to disciple and mentor emerging leaders
- to have a leadership role in the Alpha program
- to oversee the programs that fall into our category of "First Steps" (Bible studies and 12 step groups offered exclusively to Kinghaven clients)
- to lead "Next Steps" Christian discipleship classes
- to regularly attend 12 step meetings and commencement ceremonies at Kinghaven
- to develop a relationship with Peardonville House (women's recovery facility)
- to be an effective liaison between the recovery community and the larger church congregation
- to create avenues for the families of those involved in the recovery ministries to connect with the life of the church
- to maintain contact with individuals from the programs mentioned above as they move through various discipleship steps and enter into our community
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of post-secondary Christian education
- A demonstrated ability to lead, teach and mentor formally and informally
- A demonstrated ability to organize and implement ideas
- Familiarity and support of Alcoholics Anonymous philosophy
- Baptised as an adult
- Agreement with the Mennonite Confession of Faith
Experience
- Prior employment as a church minister is desired
- Previous experience in church ministry
Character
- An active, growing disciple of Jesus
- Flexible and innovative
- Ability to resonate with the larger vision of the church and to implement that vision in the area of discipleship and mentoring
- Desires to be an integral part of the West Abbotsford ministry team
